Hongkun Belting / Rubber belts for abrasive bulk materials
Abrasion Resistant Conveyor Belt
Hongkun supplies abrasion resistant conveyor belts with rubber covers and a textile carcass. W, X and Y cover options are available for review against your material and operating conditions.
The cover protects the belt surface from wear. The carcass carries belt tension. Select both together for mining, quarrying, ports, power generation and other bulk handling duties.
Cover performance + Carcass selection
Start with the damage pattern. Surface abrasion, sharp cuts and heavy impact require different checks. A low abrasion-loss value alone does not establish cut or rip resistance.

W, X and Y Rubber Cover Specifications
Compare the declared cover properties below. These are Hongkun’s supplied specification limits, not individual batch test results or a certificate of compliance.
Swipe the table to view all columns.
| Cover grade | Tensile strength, minimum (MPa) | Elongation at break, minimum (%) | Abrasion loss, maximum (mm³) |
|---|---|---|---|
| W | 18 | 400 | 90 |
| X | 25 | 450 | 120 |
| Y | 20 | 400 | 150 |
The source sheet identifies these grades using DIN 22102 W, X and Y designations. Confirm the required standard edition and abrasion test method with the order specification.
W cover
Review for Abrasive Wear
Consider W when repeated rubbing and surface wear are the main concerns. Review the material and loading conditions alongside the abrasion-loss requirement.
X cover
Review for Mixed Damage
For a DIN X conveyor belt inquiry, describe sharp lumps, cuts and loading impact. Confirm the compound and supporting damage-resistance evidence.
Y cover
Review for General Bulk Duty
Consider Y for general conveying with abrasive material. Confirm that the stated cover properties and thickness match the expected wear.
Compare abrasion-loss values only when the test method and conditions match. A lower volume loss does not translate directly into a guaranteed service-life increase.
02 / Duty selection
Abrasion, Cutting and Impact Are Different Problems
A wear resistant conveyor belt should match the dominant damage mechanism. Photos of the old belt can help identify what needs to change.
Swipe the table to view all columns.
| Damage observed | Selection focus | Information to send |
|---|---|---|
| Gradual surface wear | Cover abrasion properties and usable cover thickness. | Material type, fines, loading pattern, belt speed and worn-surface photos. |
| Cuts and gouges | Compound resistance to sharp material; cover thickness and loading arrangement. | Lump size, sharp edges, drop height and damage photos. |
| Longitudinal ripping | Carcass and conveyor protection against trapped objects and tear growth. | Rip location, tramp material, transfer layout and any tear-test requirement. |
| Layer separation or exposed fabric | Ply adhesion, cover-to-carcass bonding and the cause of exposure. | Cut-edge photos, pulley diameters, cleaning system and previous belt construction. |
Do not select a high abrasion conveyor belt only by increasing cover thickness. Belt flexibility, pulley diameter, troughing and loading support must still suit the conveyor.
03 / Reference belt construction
NN Nylon Carcass and Dimensional Options
The supplied reference construction uses nylon fabric in both the length and width directions. The NN model and ply count define the carcass specification.
Swipe the table to view all columns.
| Reference NN series | Listed ply counts | Listed belt width (mm) |
|---|---|---|
| NN-100 / NN-150 | 2–6 | 400–2500 |
| NN-200 / NN-250 | 2–6 | 500–2500 |
| NN-300 | 3–6 | 500–2500 |
| NN-400 / NN-500 | 4–6 | 800–2500 |
- Top cover: 1.5–8 mm in the supplied reference.
- Bottom cover: 0–4.5 mm in the supplied reference.
- Listed belt length: up to 300 m; confirm the supplied length and packing per order.
These are reference construction ranges. They do not mean every width, ply count, cover grade and cover thickness is available in every combination.
Illustrative inquiry format
NN-200 / 4 ply / 800 mm / 4+2 mm / W coverSpecify the carcass, ply count, width, top/bottom cover thickness and cover grade separately. Add the required belt length and operating conditions.
The example explains the fields and is not a confirmed stock item. For the complete strength series, see our nylon conveyor belts. Compare other textile carcasses on the fabric conveyor belts page.
04 / Industry applications
Applications for Abrasive Bulk Material Handling
Choose the belt for the material at each transfer point. Industry names alone do not establish the correct cover grade.
Swipe the table to view all columns.
| Industry or operation | Conveying duty | Selection priorities |
|---|---|---|
| Mining and mineral processing | Ore, crushed rock and mineral transfer. | Sharp lumps, impact, abrasion, tension and pulley geometry. |
| Quarries and aggregates | Stone, sand and gravel through crushing and screening lines. | Particle size, repeated surface wear, drop height and loading support. |
| Ports and bulk terminals | Stockyard, loading and unloading conveyors. | Material changes, moisture, outdoor exposure and conveyor length. |
| Coal and power generation | Coal handling, storage and fuel feed. | Wear, dust and any separately specified fire or antistatic requirements. |
| Metallurgy and steel plants | Raw material and bulk transfer. | Sharp material and impact; confirm temperature before selecting the compound. |
| Chemical and fertilizer handling | Non-corrosive granular or powder materials, subject to compound review. | Actual material chemistry, moisture and any oil or chemical exposure. |
For hot materials, review heat resistant conveyor belts. Abrasion resistance alone does not establish heat, oil, chemical or flame resistance.
05 / Specification evidence
What to Check in the Test Report
Match the test results to the proposed rubber compound and finished construction. An abrasion result covers one property of the belt.
- Abrasion: method, edition, result type, unit, specimen preparation and test conditions.
- Cover strength: tensile strength and elongation at break for the stated compound.
- Carcass: full-thickness strength, ply count and elongation requirements for the selected belt.
- Adhesion: ply-to-ply and cover-to-carcass values for the actual construction.
- Cut or rip exposure: the applicable test evidence and conveyor-specific requirements.
ISO 4649 describes rubber abrasion testing. Confirm the method and result type before comparing reports. It does not provide a direct prediction of belt life.
The quoted W, X and Y values are manufacturer-declared limits. Confirm the agreed acceptance method and report scope for your order.

07 / Buyer questions
Abrasion Resistant Conveyor Belt FAQ
What is an abrasion resistant conveyor belt?
It is a conveyor belt with a rubber cover selected to resist abrasive material wear. The carcass, cover thickness and loading arrangement must also suit the conveyor.
Is a lower abrasion-loss number better?
For a comparable volume-loss test, lower loss indicates less rubber removed under those test conditions. Compare the same method and result type. The number alone does not establish field service life.
Should I choose W, X or Y cover?
Start with the dominant damage: surface wear, cuts, gouges or impact. Review the declared properties, cover thickness and actual material together. Grade names alone do not settle the final selection.
Does abrasion resistance mean cut or rip resistance?
No. Abrasive rubbing, sharp cuts and longitudinal ripping are different damage mechanisms. Request separate supporting evidence where cuts or ripping control belt replacement.
Can NN nylon belts be supplied with wear-resistant covers?
The supplied product reference uses NN nylon fabric with rubber covers. Confirm the required NN model, ply count, W/X/Y cover option and dimensions together in the quotation.
Will a thicker cover always last longer?
Not necessarily. More cover material can help with wear allowance, but flexibility and pulley compatibility still matter. It will not remove damage from trapped objects, poor loading or unsuitable compounds.
Does the belt guarantee a 10–15% power saving?
A fixed power-saving percentage requires a documented comparison under defined conveyor conditions. Abrasion resistance or NN reinforcement alone does not establish that result.
What determines the abrasion resistant conveyor belt price?
Price depends on dimensions, carcass strength, ply count, cover compound, thickness, quantity and agreed testing. Send the duty and specification for an order-specific quotation.
